Selection Policy

Applications for places in UWC Colleges are facilitated via three (3) channels:

1. National Committee (UWC TT)

The Selection Policy is provided as an attachment below. The key issues are :

Age of the Applicant

Students should be between 15 and 17 years old when they apply and they have to be 16 by school entry. In special cases and with the permission of the relevant Colleges (eg. in the case of refugees), applicants may be slightly older.

Citizenship and Residency

Students applying for scholarships allocated for Trinidad & Tobago do not have to be Trinidadian citizens but, at the time of application, they must have been residents of Trinidad and Tobago for no less than three (3) years.

Applications from Relatives

Applications from close relatives of members of the UWC (Trinidad & Tobago)  are accepted, but not from officers of the National Committee. The relative concerned must step down from their post until the full selection process is complete. The Committee Member may be reinstated only when the full selection process has been completed.

Repeat Applications

The Selection Committee will accept applications from students in two consecutive years if the age requirements allows them to do so.

Availability

Applicants are expected to be available at all relevant stages of the selection process.

Application Fee

There is no application fee.

 2.  Other National Committees

If you are not eligible to apply through our National Committee, then it may be possible for you to apply to attend a UWC through an alternative selection committee of another National Committee.

If you have lived abroad for many years and are thus ineligible for selection through this Committee, you should check with the UWC International Office (info@uwcio.uwc.org) and they can advise you about alternative UWC national committees.

3. UWC Global Selection Programme

The UWC Global Selection Programme (GSP) is an application route for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) for a limited number of places at some UWCs. Currently, you can apply to 16 of the 18 UWC international schools and colleges via this route.

The UWC Global Selection Programme is coordinated by UWC International and the UWC schools, in close cooperation with the UWC national committees. Experienced UWC selection volunteers from across the movement participate in different stages of the selection process.

Please note that applicants who choose the GSP route forgo financial assistance.

All UWC's are well resourced and students are supported inside and outside of the classroom.
